Common Cleaning Questions

Can't I just rent one of those cleaning machines and do it myself?

Sure! But, beside the fact that it won't save you much money our van powered system is many times more powerful. In addition our cleaning solutions are specially formulated to deep clean your carpet and fabrics without leaving a sticky residue.

So why should I choose Marcco over all those other cleaning companies?

For almost 20 years we have been perfecting the art of cleaning; we are one of the oldest companies in San Diego Our specialists have been trained and certified in the art of cleaning and restoration. No one has the commitment to our customers or the investment on technitian education and equipment that we have!

Green Cleaning

We prefer to clean green  - it's better for all of us, our homes, our workplace, and our environment. We use cleaning solutions and equipment recommended by the Carpet and Rug Institute (CRI) with their seal of approval, along with other green cleaning solutions. Cleaning green has no bearing on any manufacturer's warranty - it is a choice, and it's the right choice for us. Marcco Cleaning & Restoration is a certified firm by The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC). There are provisions in green cleaning which allow us to get aggressive when the need arises - some spots are stubborn and stains are stains - because ultimately we want and need to clean!

We have found benefits of incorporating a green cleaning program including the following:

  • Extending the useful life of your carpet and upholstery investment
  • Improved Indoor Air Quality (IAQ)
  • Improved health of occupants, which increases productivity
  • Improved appearance
  • More efficient spot cleaning
  • Reduces liability
  • Satisfaction of helping make the home, work and community a better place

In short, cleaning green protects health without harming the environment. If you're concerned with creating the healthiest environment possible, please contact us

How do I know my carpet needs cleaning?

We get asked this question every day and the answer always starts out the same: it depends. It depends on your individual situation in your home such as are there kids and pets that track things into the home a lot? Do shoes get removed when people come into your home? Do you eat greasy foods and sugary drinks while sitting on your upholstery?

Lots of factors come into play in how quickly your furnishings look soiled and that is the key. When things start to look soiled that is the time to clean them - before they get too bad. The longer things are soiled the more your regular foot traffic (other body parts if furniture) grinds the soils deeper into the fibers, making them less able to be removed completely.

Just like a pair of jeans that show wear and color loss in the knee area over time, your carpet, rugs and upholstery will do the same if not cleaned regularly. For some that is every 3-6 months or even longer for areas that are not used.

The last thing to consider is that most new carpet warranties require professional cleaning at least once every 18 months to maintain the warranty.

So when exactly can you clean my carpet? I work a lot of hours.

We pride ourselves on working with you to get there when you need us 6 days a week. We are usually scheduled out 2-3 business days and up to one week ahead for weekends.

Can you clean my rugs when you come out to clean my carpeting?

Rugs are different than carpet in a number of ways i.e. construction, materials, thickness & density all of which make them unique in terms of cleaning.  Depending on the situation we may be able to clean them on site or take them to our plant to have them cleaned, we offer pickup and delivery., for all the area rugs we clean.

What about Teflon® is that really helpful?

Yes is the short answer. Teflon® provides your fabrics with an invisible protective barrier to assist you in removing spots and spills yourself by keeping them from penetrating deep into the fibers as quickly.  It also helps to make your regular vacuuming more effective and should help the items protected stay clean longer.

In addition to Teflon®  we offer a number of other specialty treatments.

Stains Won't Stick to Teflon®

Teflon® Advanced delivers its protection by forming a molecular shield around each carpet fiber. The shield lowers the surface energy of the carpet fibers causing them to repel liquid spills and dust and dirt. This helps prevent dirt and stains from being ground into or absorbed by the fibers.

Undetectable by sight, smell or touch, Teflon® Advanced protects all kinds of carpets. The repellent characteristic of Teflon® Advanced keeps dirt from sticking to the fibers, making carpets easier to care for. This helps your carpets look cleaner and fresher longer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Cleaning Remove the Teflon®?

Some Teflon® Advanced Carpet Protector is removed from the fiber from heavy traffic or aggressive cleaning. Some product may also be removed by strong cleaning agents and chemicals. Check with your supplier to determine which cleaning agents you may need to avoid. It is generally recommended to re-apply Teflon® Advanced each time the carpet is cleaned.

What is the difference between the mill applied and after market products?

The mill applied products are formulated for drying in the high temperature ovens found in carpet mills, while the home applied products are formulated to dry at ambient temperatures. Because the mill applied products are "baked on", they are typically more durable, depending upon the product. However, Teflon® Advanced has good durability and provides valuable protection against soil and stains.

How often should protectors be applied?

Since the biggest enemy of the protectors is abrasion from traffic, and traffic varies with each situation, the general recommendation for re-application is after each cleaning. The same conditions that led to the need for cleaning probably have led to the need to refresh the carpet protection.

Is Teflon® appropriate for all fibers?

Yes, Teflon® Advanced provides protection from soil and stains on all types of carpet fibers. A special formulation of Teflon® Advanced carpet protector has now been developed for use on wool fibers.

Should Teflon® Advanced be raked in?

Yes. After being sprayed on, the best way to assure even distribution and penetration into the pile is to groom or rake the carpet.

What about drying time?

Whenever possible the carpet should not be put back into service until dry to the touch. The length of time will vary depending upon the drying conditions, but is usually only a few hours.

Why apply Teflon® Advanced?

First, because Teflon® Advanced Carpet Protector provides a valuable service for your customers - it keeps the carpet looking good longer. From a business perspective, Teflon® Advanced will improve customer satisfaction increase profitability on the job. Two very important reasons!

Can Teflon® Advanced be applied to upholstery?

Yes, Teflon® Advanced also works on upholstery that is not subject to water damage as is silk and other more exotic fabrics. Teflon® Advanced is suitable to protect upholstery made from most cotton, nylon, polyester, and blends of these fibers. But if water damage is a possibility or a concern, do not apply Teflon® Advanced.

How do I care for my rug?

Rugs are easy to care for and will give you years of enjoyment with a minimal amount of care.  Start with regular vacuuming always being careful not to catch the fringe.  Rotate the rug 180 degrees every year or so.  And, lastly have Marcco clean it when the fringe looks soiled or when you notice it looks dull.

  • Most of us spend up to 90% of our time inside (home and work combined).
  • The "indoor air quality" environment is 20 - 50% more polluted than outside.
